About the Position:
The Senior Medical Officer is responsible for providing clinical care in Mulungu clinics, in line with regional best practice guidelines and protocols, and accepted professional standards.
Ensuring managerial oversight & medical support links with the Population Health teams directly & in collaboration with clinical team.
Contributing to the maintenance of high-quality health services as a member of the Mulungu’s multidisciplinary team, ensuring continuous quality improvement and innovation in the delivery of comprehensive primary health services.
Essential:
- Minium of 5 years' work experience in General Practice or another area of clinical medicine.
- FRACGP, FACRRM or equivalent
- Current AHPRA Registration (with no restrictions)
- Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills including negotiation and consultation skills and the ability to proactively establish and sustain effective stakeholder relationships
- Previous experience in Aboriginal Community Controlled Health sector
- Demonstrated knowledge of the Medicare Benefits Schedule.
- Demonstrate effective interpersonal skills, written and computing skills.
- Understanding and application of quality and risk management principles to practice.
- Practice within clinical standards and quality of care, which is effective, efficient and in accordance with best practice and agreed standards and policies.
- Strong organisational skills, the capacity to successfully manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and meet deadlines
- Commitment to the philosophy and practice of Aboriginal Community Control Health Sector
- Ability to act as an effective member of a multidisciplinary health team
- Current National Police Clearance
- Current “C” Class motor vehicle driver’s license
- Currently accredited supervisor for ACRRM and RACGP Registrars, or willingness to achieve this in short order.

Responsibilities include:
The scope of this position will include, but is not limited to:
- Mix of clinical and non-clinical responsibilities, portioning dependent on the staffing in clinic and admirative responsibilities.
- Provision of clinically and culturally competent health services to Mulungu clients our 3 clinics as part of the regular Mulungu GP roster, in keeping with accepted best practice standards.
- Line manager for General Practitioners and Registrars
- Maintenance of clinical skills through participation in regular continuing professional development activities and peer review by other senior clinicians
- Evidence-based clinical care in line with regional best practice standards; and ensuring current clinical policies and procedures are place.
- Prepare and participate in clinical audits
- Ensures services operate to satisfy client needs, and in accordance with obligations to internal and external stakeholders.
- Provides leadership, engaging with and responding effectively to stakeholders.
- Participation in the implementation of in-service training for staff (frequency and content determined in conjunction with management colleagues) designed to address their skills & knowledge needs.
- Assisting and supporting with supervision and teaching of GP Registrars, junior doctors, medical students and Aboriginal Health Workers and Practitioners as required.
- Work closely with Mulungu Senior Management Team
Selection Criteria
SC 1 Communication and Collaboration - Demonstrated ability to work within a team, collaborate with others and provide supervision and feedback to staff. That align to clinical governance operations.
SC2 Judgement and Decision Making - Prioritize work according to deadlines and risk, consulting with colleagues and/or Coordinator as appropriate unless the situation requires an immediate response. Decision making will adhere to relevant program frameworks, legislation, standards of practice, code of ethics and scope of practice.
SC3 Records Management - Proven ability to create, maintain and review clinical records. Ability to manage documents as required regarding policy, procedures, and meeting records.
SC4 Leadership Skills – Demonstratable high-level leadership skills and experience including the ability to build and effectively manage relationships at all levels both within and outside the organisation.
SC5 Experience -
(a) Bachelor of Medicine and current registration with the Medical Board of Queensland and Fellowship of RACGP or ACRRM.
(b) Demonstrated skills in performing comprehensive patient assessments and planning, implementing, and evaluating clinical care and other health care strategies.
(c) Demonstrated skills as a registered accredited supervisor for ACRRM and RACGP Registrars
